Donald recently took to his social media to share an open letter celebrating Amanda Black.
“Dear Amanda Black, it is with joy and gratitude that I write this letter to you,” he began.
“I know this might come as a surprise, but I hope it leaves you with a happy and content heart. Firstly, thank you for the music. I can officially and publicly declare that I am your number one fan. I have been a fan since the first moment I saw you on Idols, and to this day I remain your biggest supporter.”
He continued: “If no one has ever told you this, I am here to say that you have had an amazing career so far, one that many artists can only dream of.
“You are regarded as one of the most powerful voices of our generation, and I am here to remind you that you did that, girl. I also know there is much more ahead of you.”
Donald recalled a key moment: “I remember the first time I saw you perform live. It was during ‘Idols’ in 2016 at the State Theatre, where I was a mentor for the Top 3 that season. I was surprised to see you performing your first single, ‘Amazulu’.”
“I swear I was in tears that day, but I had to play it cool around people because, you know, a thug cannot be seen crying in public, lol. From that moment, I knew you were destined for greatness.”
He added a personal anecdote: “I even wrote a verse that year for ‘Amazulu’ because I thought I could convince you to do a remix and feature me. In 2018, I sent you a message on WhatsApp because I felt like you were not okay and might need some positive energy.”
“Guess what? That message is still unread eight years later because you had changed your number,” he shared.
Donald admitted that he sometimes worries about Black from afar. “I feel like some people do not fully understand just how lucky we all are to experience your talent in real time. I am truly grateful, and I just want to say thank you, Amanda.”
He closed the letter with honesty: “At this moment, I am not your colleague. I am just a guy who loves your music and respects you as a human being.
PS: I do not know why I have never asked you to do a song with me. Oh well, who knows what the future holds.” – IOL
