THE public has been urged to donate blood to the National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) ahead of the festive season.

A lot of accidents are usually recorded during the festive season.

NBSZ communications officer, Kudakwashe Chidziya, said blood stocks were low.

“Our stocks are critically low and we continuously urge every Zimbabwean to donate blood.

“Usually in December, a lot of accidents are reported and we need to have adequate blood,” he said.

He said they hope to have enough blood for the next two months.

“We expect a total collection of 6 960 whole blood units to ensure we have an adequate blood stock in December and January.”

Meanwhile, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

“As the rainy season is approaching, TSCZ would like to urge the motoring public to be especially cautious on the road.

“We urge motorists to avoid speeding and maintain a proper following distance at all costs in an effort to avoid road crashes.”
