Donga military parade today

A MILITARY parade for Colonel Kutandakwenkosi Donga, the first woman to be appointed defence attaché, who died recently in Ethiopia, will be held today before burial tomorrow.

Col Donga (nee Ngwenya), 56, who was declared a liberation war hero, passed away on January 8 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where she was posted as a defence attaché.

Her body arrived in Bulawayo yesterday and was welcomed at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Airport yesterday by close family members, Zimbabwe Defence Forces members and friends.

Family spokesperson Kalani Ndlovu said a funeral parade would be held today before a church service at home the same day.

“A military parade will be held at Headquarters Bulawayo District, Imbizo Barracks today at 10AM before the full funeral service at her home in Hillside at 2pm,” said Ndlovu.

He said another church service would be held at the Amphitheatre on Sunday morning from 8 to 10AM before she is laid to rest at West Park Cemetery.

Col Donga was born on September 2, 1959 in Dombodema Village, Bulilimamangwe District under Chief Mpini.

She attended Masuku Primary School in Tshabalala before proceeding to St Peters High School.

She is survived by husband Kingston, and two children Takunda and Sakhile.

Mourners are gathered at number 14 Cecil Avenue Hillside.
