Dongfeng trucks enter local market

Herald Reporter

A NEW supplier of trucks to Zimbabwe, Dongfeng Trucks, debuted at the ADMA AgriShow at Art Farm in Pomona, Harare, in partnership with major dealerships Croco Motors and Duly Trucks.

Croco Motors director Mr Wayne Chingwena said establishing a dealership agreement required every detail to be meticulously addressed with the dealers being equipped and staff trained.

Dongfeng Trucks hopes to sell vehicles to the construction, agriculture, infrastructure development, city councils, rural district councils, manufacturing and retail industries.

An interesting historical note shared during the launch was that the first Dongfeng truck arrived in Zimbabwe in the 1970s, aiding in the fight for independence.

Dongfeng has grown exponentially, with over 60 million units distributed worldwide and supplies engines and axles to other major Chinese automakers like Shacman, Howo, and Yutong.

“The company’s commitment to global expansion is evident, with a planned investment of over US$60 billion into the overseas market over the next three years,” said Mr Chingwena.

The launch event was attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Harare, the Chinese Chamber of Business and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, who emphasised the strong bilateral ties and the shared vision for Zimbabwe’s development.
