NATIONAL Premier League debutants Strikers have announced they will stick with the players that helped the team write its piece of history by becoming the first cricket club from Mashonaland East to play in the NPL.
In an interview with the Zimpapers Sports Hub, Strikers chairperson Godfrey Kaswa could not hide his joy at leading the club into the NPL.
“We are excited to have qualified. What excites us is that for the first time, the NPL will have a team from Mashonaland East,” said Kaswa.
He described the qualification as a reward for the hard work put in by the team, hence the reason they will stick with the same group of players going into their debut season of the cricket national league.
“We started this project five years ago with these boys and through hard work we have managed to qualify for the NPL.
“Qualifying on its own is such a huge achievement and we aim to continuously develop the boys’ talent, hence we are not looking at overhauling the squad.”
Kaswa believes the coming in of clubs from different parts of the country will play a big role in exposing the talent of residents outside of the big cities and towns.
“We aim to expose the talent that we have here in Marondera, and I believe that with other clubs coming from the different parts of the country it helps with talent exposure at a bigger scale,” said Kaswa.
Strikers are targeting a decent outing in their debut season.
“For this campaign, our aim is top six,” said the Strikers chairman.
They are one of the four debutants in this year’s edition of the NPL.
Strikers qualified for the 2024 NPL season together with Harare Metropolitan side Rangers, Rimuka from Mashonaland West, and Knights from Masvingo.
