Dongo demands consistency

CASTLE Lager Premiership basement outfit, Dongo Sawmill are basking in the glory of their maiden triumph on home turf and the club owner Francis Dongo, now wants his team to continue collecting maximum points at home as they seek to escape the dreaded relegation chop.

Dongo Sawmill have been struggling to produce positive results while playing at home, but things changed last Sunday as they managed to get a slender 1-0 triumph over an equally struggling WhaWha FC at Vengere Stadium.

The victory brought a huge sigh of relief on the players and the technical department that one would be forgiven to think that Dongo had just won the Premiership League championship owing to the wild celebration that followed their late winner.

Nonetheless, the Nyanga side, which adopted Rusape’s Vengere Stadium as its home ground, remain rooted at the basement of the 16-team log table.

Team owner Francis Dongo believes they now need to be consistent in collecting maximum points, especially while playing at home.

“I think we still have a chance to avoid relegation although things have not been what we expected of late. We have not been collecting points and it was even more painful to watch the team lose points at home.

“Now that we seem to have broken the jinx, we now need to be consistent and make sure that we get the better of all our opponents here at Vengere. That does not mean that we must be complacent when playing away from home,” said Dongo in a telephone interview this week.

Dongo will be travelling to Gweru this weekend where they will face WhaWha FC in a mid-season back-to-back encounter at Ascot Stadium tomorrow.

After tomorrow’s match, Dongo Sawmill will be back at Vengere Stadium up against title-chasing Chicken Inn in a match that Dongo need to prove that the win against WhaWha FC was not a fluke.

The Nyanga businessman also confirmed the latest acquisition of six new players on loan from Mutare army outfit, Buffaloes.

Striker, Simba Kateguru, defender, Never Musvipa and Jerry Kamunda are among the six that recently joined Dongo.

“We have since acquired the services of six new players and we offloaded those that we feel were excess baggage.

“We are confident that the six will make a difference and add value to the project,” he said.
