INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa has implored traditional leaders to “leave no one behind” and involve people living with disabilities in all developmental programmes in their communities.
She said this is in line with President Mnangagwa’s drive for inclusive socio-economic transformation that is envisioned under Vision 2030.
Speaking after donating a specialised wheelchair for 10-year-old Dylan Marowa in Piki Village, Zimunya, yesterday, Minister Mutsvangwa said people living with disabilities are a key constituency in Government’s vision for an upper middle-income economy by 2030.
“The President has been preaching the ‘leave no one behind’ mantra since he got into office and it should be clear to everyone that we are running with that mantra as a nation, be it in urban or rural areas. As traditional leaders, you should know that disability is not inability and that everyone is equal. Involve everyone, be it in developmental projects or otherwise,” she said.
“People living with disabilities should not be left out of this development mantra that our Government is pursuing. It is part of your role as chiefs to ensure that the needs of people living with disabilities are prioritised.”
Dylan is living with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects a person’s ability to move and maintain balance, after he contracted yellow jaundice two days after birth.
His mother, Rachel Marowa, expressed appreciation for the minister’s donation, describing it as a dream come true for the family.
“I have been at home, doing nothing and going nowhere because I could not leave my child alone, because he would be uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, in Manicaland, ZANU PF Women’s League Secretary for Administration Senator Monica Mutsvangwa — who is also Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister — yesterday emerged as the uncontested provincial nominee for the first position in the province alongside three other nominees.
In Mashonaland East and Bulawayo provinces, the Women’s League structures resolved to endorse President Mnangagwa as the ruling party’s sole candidate for the 2023 elections. Full resolutions from all provinces are expected to be confirmed today.
