RISING sungura star Tendai Chipara (pictured below), popularly known as Dotcom, is set to tour Australia in August.
Speaking on the sidelines of a show at Mverechena Hotel on Sunday, the musician said everything was now set for his maiden tour. “All the paperwork has been processed and we are raring to go,” he said.
Judging from his weekend performance, his Australian fans should expect nothing short of fireworks.
The 26-year-old musician showed his mettle when he performed for more than eight hours without a break.
Fans kept on asking for more until the wee hours of Monday.

Popular musician Kapfupi who joined him on stage, described the musician as the “next best thing in sungura”.
“Mupfanha arikurova saDembo mhani uyu (The young man sounds like Leonard Dembo),” said Kapfupi.

Chipara’’s music is a reflection of his deep understanding of the people around him and the issues that affect them in their day-to-day lives.
He is riding high with his third album titled “Ngwarawo”.

True to Kapfupi’s assertion Dotcom said he draws inspiration from the late greats Tongai Moyo and Leonard Dembo.
“I grew up listening to Dembo and his music was very inspirational. When Dembo died, Tongai Moyo took over the genre and the legacy lived on. Since it’s the music that I grew up listening to, I have an appreciation of the genre,” he said.

Like his role models, Dembo and Moyo, Chipara sings love songs. The song “Chikondamoyo”, bears testimony to that. Though the song is lyrically rich, it is the instrument arrangement that appeals the most.

Although unknown in Harare, Dotcom commands a huge following in Mashonaland Central where he has made Mt Darwin his fortress.
“I am slowly penetrating Harare, there are many promoters who have contacted my manager,” he said.
