Doves Crocker Morgan managing director Mr Talent Maziwisa said the fund would initially benefit pupils with outstanding fee payments.
He said the fund would also be available to exceptional high school pupils who would have excelled in their examinations and wanted to proceed to university.
“The fund was initiated after an independent research by Doves revealed that over one thousand workers at Essar in Redcliff were struggling to pay their children’s schools fees. In our continued endeavour to give back to the community, we initiated a scholarship fund that would aid scholars continue with their education (from primary) up to university level,” he said.
Mr Maziwisa said the funeral assurer would also embark on project developments to train and encourage pupils to attain entrepreneurial skills that would eliminate the dependency syndrome.
He said income generating projects like poultry, carpentry and welding would be initiated by the assurer and spearheaded by school headmasters to complement the financial support. Mr Maziwisa said plans were in the pipeline for renovations and upgrading of learning facilities to provide pupils with a conducive learning environment.
“All children in Zimbabwe have the right to education and it is our mandate to ensure that they receive such and benefit from the fund,” he said.
