WORK on the upgrading of the Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa School of Nursing in Kadoma is progressing well, with workmen putting final touches to expanded facilities with modern aesthetics.

The upgrading of the facilities where 20 students have already started their lessons is expected to be complete ahead of the official opening by the First Lady, Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, next week.

The school director, Cde Jimayi Muduvuri, said all was now in place for the students and the official opening of the school.

“This is the first private nursing school that is not directly linked to a Government health facility and we have made sure that everything is in place for the students who started on May 4,” said Cde Muduvuri.

“We are putting the final touches to the facilities by making them modern in line with the stature of our First Lady. It has to be the right standard and we’re making sure of that.”

Cde Muduvuri said as a businessman, he is answering to President Mnangagwa’s clarion call for Zimbabweans to develop their own nation.

School head Ms Peggy Dube said the students had started, but lessons would start full throttle after the commissioning of the school.

“The students have arrived and started lessons after a rigorous selection process. However, we go full throttle as soon as the school is commissioned by the person it is named after (First Lady),” said Ms Dube.

Thelma Chipeza, a student from Banket, said the school provided equal opportunities to all.

“I am happy and thankful to Cde Muduvuri because, as a person with Albinism, you face discrimination sometimes, but everything here was done fairly,” she said.

Another student, Moreblessing Masukume from Rusape, expressed happiness with the chance to learn at the school.

“I am happy that I am finally here because it was not easy to be selected from a pool of 3 000 prospective students,” she said.
