When Dr Caroline Clever Makoni walked across the graduation stage, she carried more than academic regalia, she carried the aspirations of a nation hungry for solutions.
With two doctoral degrees, Summa Cum Laude honours, and recognition as lnstitute Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (CIML’s), Best Student of 2025, Dr Makoni has emerged as one of Zimbabwe’s most inspiring academic voices.
Her journey is remarkable not just for its accolades, but for its purpose.
While many scholars chase theory, Dr Makoni chose impact.
“This is about Zimbabwe’s future workforce.
“If we do not act now, we risk losing another generation of talent.”
Her research tackles Zimbabwe’s long-standing skills challenge, particularly in the oil and gas industry, where local capacity remains limited and dependence on expatriate expertise persists.
Through her work, she proposes structured systems that allow expatriate professionals to mentor, train, and transfer knowledge to local experts, ensuring sustainability, continuity, and national ownership.
Her story is one of intellect guided by patriotism, proof that Zimbabwean excellence can compete globally while remaining deeply rooted in national development.
