Dr Evelyn Ndlovu hails EU-Funded project for boosting resilience in Matabeleland South

Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu, has praised a European Union-funded resilience project for its transformative impact on communities in the region. .
Speaking at a review meeting today, Dr Ndlovu highlighted the project’s success in addressing hunger, improving infrastructure, and empowering women and youth since its launch in 2022.
The initiative, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has introduced piped water schemes, dip tanks, and commercial projects, while promoting climate-proofing efforts and traditional food systems.
The Minister also emphasised the importance of safeguarding infrastructure and commended the collaborative efforts of government, communities, and development partners in driving sustainable development.
She highlighted that the success of the project has been evident in the programmes introduced in the Matobo District.
Today’s meeting aims to review the implementation of the project.
The project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to address hunger.
It has introduced piped water schemes for communities while also establishing infrastructure such as dip tanks.
She urged communities to safeguard the developed infrastructure to ensure sustainable development.
Dr Ndlovu noted that the project has led to behavioural changes among community members, with some villagers now involved in commercial projects using local resources.
She added that the project has helped communities recognise the value of traditional foods, which also promote healthy living.
“We need to scale up climate-proofing efforts. Agriculture needs to thrive even under changing weather patterns,” she said.
Through inclusive development and empowering communities, the project has empowered women in Matabeleland South. “I salute the strength of women in Matabeleland South,” she said.
Youths have also benefited from the project, and we are contributing to ending poverty.
The project is a product of collaboration among various stakeholders, including the Government, communities, and development partners. This also aligns with President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement strategy.
