PREPARATIONS for the Heroes Day celebrations are at an advanced stage in Marondera, as Mashonaland East province gears to join the entire nation in honouring the sacrifices made by the gallant sons and daughters of the soil to bring freedom to the masses.
Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, briefed the media about the province’s preparedness at his offices today.
“As Mashonaland East Province, we are now at an advanced state of preparedness for the celebrations of Heroes Day where we acknowledge and applaud the heroic efforts and sacrifices made by sons and daughters of Zimbabwe in fighting for our liberation,” he said.
“I can confirm that throughout our nine administrative districts, we have mobilised resources, we have prepared venues and entertainment, and we have publicised the event throughout the province so that we can have record turnouts in all the district centres.
“But equally important is that here in Marondera, we will host the provincial heroes day celebration at our provincial heroes shrine.
“We have prepared the provincial shrine and procured all the requirements and amenities to make sure that those who would attend the event will do so in comfort.”
Meanwhile, preparations for the National Youth and Paralympic Games to be held in Marondera, in Mashonaland East Province, are now at an advanced stage, Advocate Ndudzo has also revealed.
The games will be held from August 12 to 18, 2026 under the theme, “Breaking the silence through sport”.
“I want to confirm that Mashonaland East Province is now ready to host the National Youth and Paralympic Games, and we will have these games here in our provincial capital of Marondera,” he said.
“We have made arrangements for venues for all the games that would be played in the tournament.
“I can also confirm that we have made arrangements for accommodation and secured transportation, food, medication and all the other critical ammenities to ensure that we deliver top notch games.”
He added that they were now waiting for the other provinces to come and contest in Mashonaland East.
Advocate Ndudzo said the games are the biggest sporting event to happen in the province this year.
“The big thing coming to our province this year are the National Youth and Paralympic Games to be held under the theme, “Breaking the Silence Through Sport,” as we strive to break the challenge on the scourge of drug and substance abuse and unwanted and adolescent pregnancies,” he said.
“Mashonaland East is ready to welcome you and we welcome any kind of contribution that people may deem necessary to ensure that the games become a resounding success.”
