Zimbabwean female miners continue to transform the mining landscape as Dr Faith Mutete bridges the gap between artisanal pits and global boardrooms.

Following a year of high-profile international recognition, she emerged as a powerhouse at the 2nd Annual Women in Mining (WIMA) Awards, hosted by Women Empowerment in Mining Zimbabwe.

She scooped the Regional Influencer Award and led her team to a staggering four-award sweep.

This local dominance follows a string of global accolades for her leadership, including being named a Global WE Empower UN SDG Challenge finalist and her inclusion in the Global WIM100 (2024) by Women in Mining UK (WIM UK) and International.

Beyond the local pits, Dr Mutete serves as a strategic advisor for the Investing in African Mining Indaba and engages with the African Union (AU), proving she is a world-class standard-bearer for ethical, professional and women-led mining.

Women Empowerment In Mining Zimbabwe (WEMZ) Director, Ms Chiedza Chipangura, praised Dr Mutete (Country Coordinator For Women in Mining Zimbabwe).

“Dr Faith is a hardworking lady whose dedication has brought tangible results to the community.”

She further noted that through this work, “women miners finally feel truly represented”, as critical support is sourced for clean energy and gemstone value addition.

A pivotal moment for the organisation’s educational impact was the recognition received during the Young Miners Foundation (YMF) 15th Anniversary at the Zimbabwe School of Mines.

Dr Mutete scooped the Outstanding Woman in Mining Award, an honour that underscores the success of the University WIM student chapters in promoting STEM education and bridging the skills gap for young women in geology and engineering.
