MUSIC producer, Dr Tawanda, has recalled how he once worked as a security guard manning a backyard scrap metal firm in Botswana.
Born Tawanda Kasaira, the 40-year-old said the experience made him stronger as a man working in a foreign land.
He revisited his early days in Botswana as he celebrates 17 years as a professional producer-cum-entrepreneur.
“When I came to Botswana, many years ago, life was not rosy for me as a foreigner,” recalled Dr Tawanda.
“I worked odd hours as a security guard at a company that dealt in scrap metal where thieves were giving us trouble.
“It was the most difficult period of life since I have always liked music.
“Music production has always been my first love and I couldn’t imagine myself working in unfamiliar territory.
“I can safely they were two months of torture but I am now somewhere.”
The producer, who alternates between Gaborone and Mafikeng in South Africa, has been credited for revolutionising the sound of Batswana musicians.
“I have worked with top artists from this side including Vee, Charma Girl, Culture Spears, Franco, ATI, Maghebula, Slizer, and Nelsy B, among others.
“I have brought a certain touch that was lacking as the sound keeps evolving at Mega Bass Studios. I have also been given a Lifetime Achievement award and Best Music Producer at the Setswana Music Awards, which speaks volumes of my work.”
The father of five, who is set to embark on his maiden tour of the UK, is happy that he fulfilled his dreams.
“God has been doing wonders in my life since I was invited to come and perform at the Worship Night in Dunstable along with other artists like Mambo Dhuterere, Dorcas Moyo, Apostle Chigodora, Lloyd Tevedzai, Sharon Manatsa, Evangelista Wadza, among others.
“I linked with the organisers through my music, which has been trending on YouTube.
“The show will be held on July 6 at the Dunstable Conference Centre on the occasion of my 41st birthday.
“I can’t wait to be there in the UK celebrating with my fans.”
