The grading took place at Tsholotsho business centre in Matabeleland North.
Two karatekas Qinisela Mlotshwa and Prince Phiri got yellow belts from white, the elementary belt while
Trevor Moyo and Nqobani Mlala were given their orange belts respectively with Prince Chinamana receiving his third brown belt.
“We will have our next grading in June next year since you know that karate grading happens after every six months,” said the academy’s instructor, Agrippa Greatermans Sibanda, a holder of a first dan black belt.
Sibanda said the club was formed to promote divergence of sport in the district as well as instilling discipline in the youths.
“I know people have a misconception that karatekas are a violent lot but the opposite is true. Karate promotes discipline and also helps one to lead a very healthy life,” said Sibanda.
His academy uses the Sankui style.
Tsholotsho Dragons Karate Academy has 20 members who are trained by Sibanda three times a week.
“We have a vigorous training programme on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays,” said Sibanda.
Some of the newly graded members of the club showcased their skills to the audience at the Tsholotsho District Football Association Stars Awards held at the Roman Catholic Hall at the business centre on Saturday evening.
