HOT on the heels of the fabulous Festival of Speed event held just three weeks ago, Donnybrook Raceway will be alight again with motor racing action this Saturday, as the “hp lubes Castrol Drag Racing Series” continues with the third instalment of the series in Harare.
With a slight variation from its usual Sunday spot, the Sables Dragpro Club, who run this exciting motorsport in Zimbabwe, have thrown in one Saturday date in the 2017 calendar to accommodate those competitors and motor racing fans who miss out on Sunday events.
The highly anticipated event, which draws large numbers of competitors and spectators alike, has been Zimbabwe’s largest motorsport event for the last five years and shown no signs of slowing.
Every event features many hardened fanatics in highly modified vehicles as well as novice newcomer competitors in a manner of motor vehicles and bikes, racing against each other and against the clock down the quarter-mile strip at Donnybrook.
Whilst the group of competitors in the top league continue to battle it out, with narrow margins separating them and each with their dedicated follower base to satisfy, the competitive streak runs right through the 14 vehicle classes, with long standing grudge matches prevailing amongst the BMWs, Subarus and not forgetting the bikers, they’re all equally passionate about the sport of drag racing.
Manu Zevgolis of the Sables Dragpro Club said yesterday that tomorrow will “definitely” be another fun-filled day for the local drag racing competitors and fans alike.
“There’s a place to race and that is on the Race Track! So if you think you have a fast car and want an opportunity to put the pedal to the metal, then Sables Dragpro Club and our racing fans want to see you at Donnybrook Raceway, this Saturday, September 2.
“No previous experience is necessary and training will be provided to newcomers on the day,” Zevgolis said.
Registration opens at 10:30 am and closes at 2:30 pm.
Entry to Donnybrook is $5 per person with children under 12 years free. Fans can use their swipe cards to gain entry into Donnybrook tomorrow.
“Bring the whole family – cooler boxes and picnics are welcome and there will be full bar and catering and jumping castles for the kids,” Zevgolis added.
