HOW MINE striker Kuda Musharu scored the fastest goal of the season straight from kick off as inconsistent Harare City once again failed to hold on to a lead in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash at Rufaro yesterday.
Harare City players were still disengaging from their pre-match prayer and keeper Maxwell Nyamupanedengu was not yet at his goal when below par referee Josiah Masimira blew to start the match.
Musharu hit the ball straight from the centre into an open net and Masimira allowed the goal to stand amid protests from City players.
City’s on fire winger William Manondo leveled the scores after 19 minutes with a long range strike before the exciting Kudakwashe Kumwala put the hosts ahead two minutes from the breather.
How Mine came back a more determined side in the second stanza and were duly rewarded in the 80th minute when defender Nyasha Mukumbi headed home a corner.
Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro blasted Masimira for his controversial show.
“Maybe I am wrong, maybe you journalists didn’t see it but most of the decisions were questionable. The referee didn’t protect our players, you saw it there, how can you explain it…a kungfu style kick, offences going unpunished.
“Maybe I am wrong, but I felt somebody must have played a part in derailing us. We have a Cup final next week and you wouldn’t want your players to be exposed like that,” said Mangwiro.
The Sunshine Boys are now on 37 points and overtook Caps United into fifth place by virtue of a superior goal difference.
How Mine coach Jeremiah Makote was happy with the draw.
“We are fighting relegation and a draw against a good side like Harare City is commendable,” he said.
