Dreams of a budding footballer

Thousands of budding footballers are dotted across the country, all with a dream to make it to the top-flight to make a name for themselves.

The country has proved over the years that it has talent which can be exported to top-flight leagues in the world.

The current trio of Marvelous Nakamba, Marshall Munetsi and Tino Kadewere, who are based in England, France and Spain respectively, all started their football careers in Zimbabwe.

And that alone should be enough to inspire many budding footballers.

H-Metro caught up with one budding footballer, who is dreaming of making a breakthrough into the Castle Lager Premier Soccer league.

Shawn Mupesa, who is currently in the books of Dynamos juniors, said he is pushing to be among those that will be given places in the senior team when the new season starts in March next year.

“Breaking into the Dynamos first team will mean a lot to me. It’s not even debatable that it is one of the biggest clubs in the country.

“If you make it at Dynamos, it will be easy for you to play for the national team. So, I am really working hard to make that materialise,” Mupesa said.

He started his career at Harare City Academy before moving to Yadah.

From Yadah he joined the Kadewere Football Academy before being snapped up by the Dynamos Division Two side.

“During my Harare City and Yadah stints, I was playing as a winger, but when I joined Dynamos, I was deployed as an attacking midfielder, a role which I am enjoying.

“I see myself improving every day. I managed to score goals and assisted as well and I am hoping to maintain that momentum.”

The forward believes he has what it takes to play in the top-flight league.

“I don’t think I will have trouble with adjusting to top-flight football demands. The same people I played with at Yadah are the same people I will be playing with also and that makes me believe in my abilities. So, I am ready for the challenge.

“Football is my passion and my life.”

He also said the support he gets from his parents acts as inspiration in his push to achieve his goals.

“My parents have been supportive of my dreams. When I was still at Harare City, they would come watch me playing almost every time at Rufaro or Gwanzura stadiums.
