admincompany with interests in agriculture, conducted demonstrations last week in Buhera North in a bid to transform their traditional type of farming. The project will see small-scale farmers benefiting from this type of farming particularly those living in infertile lands.
Buhera North Member of Parliament Cde William Mutomba approached Pedstock Investment to explore ways in which villagers could benefit from drip irrigation. Addressing villagers at Gaza Growth Point, Cde Mutomba expressed concern over low yields being produced in the hunger stricken area.
“This area was a bit neglected, hunger is the order of the day and Buhera is well known for that,” said Cde Mutomba.
“Our soil is no longer able to produce enough to sustain us so this drip irrigation will help all of us to maximise and utilise a small portion enough to feed our families and different crops like tomatoes, maize, potatoes, could be planted.”
Speaking during the demonstration, Pedstock Investments sales and marketing manager, Patrick Mahachi, said introducing drip irrigation had the potential to transform the livelihood of the villagers.
