ON the very day he was employed as a driver, a Bulawayo man allegedly disappeared with the vehicle only to be caught after two months. Nkosentsha Hlongwane, 36, had driven for nearly 10,000 kilometres when he was arrested after the owner of the vehicle spotted him at a service station in Gweru on Monday.

Hlongwane approached Victor Sibanda on April 13 at his home in Entumbane looking for employment as a driver. He was engaged and given the Ipsum vehicle and that was the last time he was seen.

Hlongwane appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
Prosecuting, Whatmore Tembo said after Hlongwane was employed by Sibanda, the two agreed that he would operate along the Bulawayo-Plumtree route and return home daily to hand over the  money.

Hlongwane took the vehicle and disappeared until his arrest last Monday, the court heard.
“Sibanda was in Gweru on his way to Harare when he identified his car being driven by Hlongwane at a service station. He then informed the police leading to Hlongwane’s arrest,”  said Tembo.

Hlongwane was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to Monday.
