Driver nabbed with 500l fuel

A 38-YEAR-OLD man was this week nabbed with 500 litres of both petrol and diesel he had smuggled from Mozambique.

Phineas Chauke of Vheneka Village in Chief Garahwa’s area was intercepted by police in Chisumbanje with 15 plastic containers carrying 25 litres of petrol each and four plastic containers carrying 25 litres of diesel each.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident which happened on Sunday.

“Chauke was driving a white Toyota Wish vehicle when police received a tip off that he had smuggled fuel through Mabeye illegal crossing point. Police ambushed him at Garahwa Business Centre. They recovered the fuel and Chauke was arrested,” said Inspector Chananda.

Investigations are in progress.
