MUTARE is set to host another thrilling community event on Sunday, following the successful “Bikers Against Drug Abuse” campaign in 2023, which drew over 30 bikers from across the country.
This time, sports cars will take centre stage, showcasing their sleek designs, roaring engines, and electrifying atmosphere, courtesy of Team Mark X.
The event promises to be more than just a visual spectacle – but a powerful platform to deliver a critical message about the dangers of substance abuse among youths.
By fusing entertainment and education, the organisers aim to engage and interact with the community, driving home the importance of this timely message.
Hot on the heels of the 2023 spectacle, Mutare is gearing up for another adrenaline-fueled event.
Two years ago, the city’s Central Business District came to a standstill as 32 members of the Zimbabwe Free Riders Association rode into town.
Their thunderous engines and impressive maneuvers drew large crowds, temporarily halting business activity.
The 2023 convoy showcased an impressive fleet of high-performance bikes, including BMW’s K16 Baja, GS 1200 and 1250, and RR 1000.
Other iconic models from Yamaha, Suzuki, and Spider Team were also part of the entourage.
Cruising from Harare to Mutare at an average speed of 130km/h, the bikers wore custom-designed attire and T-shirts emblazoned with powerful anti-drug messages.
The event was a testament to the riders’ unity, purpose, and passion for creating social impact through their love of biking.
Now, in 2025, the mission continues, with a new event set to thrill the city.
Like their biker predecessors, Team Mark X is gearing up for a cause that transcends the thrill of the ride.
Their mission remains clear – to combat the scourge of drug and substance abuse among Manicaland’s youths, and inspire a shift towards healthier lifestyles.
They also aim to raise awareness about the dangers of crime and social ills.
Team Mark X chairman, Washington Mandirahwe said a high-octane spectacle is the perfect vehicle to deliver a critical message to youths and others about the dangers of substance abuse.
“We firmly believe this is a worthy cause, as the abuse of drugs and substances has become a menacing threat. It is heartbreaking to see young people with bright futures succumbing to this scourge. We will be visiting high-density suburbs, watering holes, and other critical hotspots to spread our message,” he said.
“The team’s vice chairperson, Occasion Chimwendo added: “Our goal goes beyond entertainment – we want to engage, educate, and inspire. By creating a spectacle that grabs attention, we hope to connect with young people on their level. We want them to know there are better paths available, their dreams are still within reach, and help is at hand. This initiative is about reclaiming hope and dignity for our communities.”
