President Mugabe donated the grain under the scheme, which was launched late last year.
A total of 180 tonnes of wheat and 90 tonnes of rice were allocated for distribution to major institutions in the province.
Lupane District Administrator Mr Christopher Chuma said part of the grain earmarked for the province would be deposited to the Isiphala seNkosi programme.
“Institutions that will benefit from the scheme in the province include St Luke’s Hospital, which will receive 10 tonnes of rice, St Paul’s Hospital will get five tonnes of rice and 10 clinics will get a tonne each,” said Mr Chuma.
“Chiefs Mabhikwa and Menyezwa will receive a tonne of wheat and half a tonne of rice, which will be deposited in the Isiphala seNkosi in their areas,” he said.
Mr Chuma said the bulk of the people who benefited were the under priviledged.
“The majority of the people in the province who benefited are the orphans, disabled and orphans.
“They got mostly wheat. Everyone in the province will benefit from the scheme,” he said.
The Presidential drought mitigation scheme is aimed at making sure that people affected by hunger do not die.
