DRUG abuse is a rampant problem among the youths in Damafalls.
Substances such as unlicensed tobacco, cannabis, crystal meth, and non-medical controlled medicines like codeine-containing cough medicines are commonly being abused.
Silas Kachisi, a former drug addict, said that drug abuse could cause physical and mental health issues, including lack of energy and motivation, weight loss, changes in behaviour and money problems.
Kachisi’s family discovered his addiction when he was admitted to a hospital after cutting his wrist while under the influence of crystal meth.
“My family discovered that I was taking crystal meth when I was admitted to Parirenyatwa Hospital because I had cut my left hand wrist when I was under the influence. Thanks to my girlfriend, who came and rescued me, when I was unconscious.
“When I was discharged from hospital, I was taken to Ruwa Rehabilitation Centre where I was helped to abstain from drugs,” said Kachisi.
Sarah Mutandwa, a hairdresser, expressed concern about the prevalence of drug abuse in her area.
“Young men often gather at the car park next to our salon where they smoke cannabis and take codeine.
