Gone are the days when all children used to have respect for their parents (elders),but this is not because of time but because of the different social paraphernalia which have invaded difference societies in different unexpected ways ,for example drugs.
I would like to take this opportunity to write about the impacts of drugs on the society.
Firstly, I would like to talk about the negative impacts of drugs on the society.
Drugs have really triggered a great danger especially to teenagers, this is because most teenagers have heard myths like that dagga or marijuana or mbanje enhances brain performance in school. This is a lie.
Young teenagers are ending up having brain disturbances and loose morals, because of this mind altering smoke. In reality grades of drug takers fall.
Drugs have also led to serious health complications. Drugs such as heroin, mbanje and glue have destroyed lives of many young stars. These drugs can cause various types of cancer, brain damage, mental retardation and the spreading of diseases such as HIV and AIDS. This have cost a lot of bright futures.
The other issue is that drugs have caused identity crisis and have spoiled many people’s personal reputations. Many people’s profiles have been spoiled because of drugs, the way you see someone walking, talking or interacting, even the way someone dresses despite the fact that there is poverty defines what type of an individual someone is.
A substance abuser is easily identified through loose morals, crime, slurred speech, vulgar language and indecent as well as scruffy dressing.
On another note drugs have destroyed our teenage sense of importance and value. In other words, I can say our dignity has been destroyed. This will cause a great dilemma in the near future since we teenagers are going to be the leaders of tomorrow.
Some of us are already hooked. The time to make a change is now. That’s why there is an old saying which says “Make haste whilst the sun shines”, so it will be better to prepare for a better tomorrow whilst we are still young rather than destroying our future because of non-profitable and non- beneficial things; drugs.
However, drugs also have positive impacts on the society. Drugs have been used for medicinal purposes, making analgesics and many more things such as in sporting which many scientists and doctors would support. But the secret is in use, and not abuse.
In conclusion, I would like to say to all my peers that you should stay away from drugs.
There are a million other ways in which we can have fun without killing our brain cells.
