THE annual Drums of Peace Resonance Festival that usually takes place in the month of September and aims at preserving and promoting the drumming culture among African communities has been suspended due to lack of funds. Drums of Peace Festival is a unique interactive drumming performance by people from all over the world and gives audiences an opportunity to play the drums as experts teach and choreograph the music and dances.
Speaking to Sunday Leisure, Drums of Peace director Lewis Ndlovu confirmed that this year’s annual drumming event would not take place because of financial constraints.
“This year’s annual blue moon drumming event that usually takes place during this time of the year has been suspended. This is because funds are not permitting to bring together artistes from all over the world to hold our festival,” Ndlovu said.
Ndlovu, however, hinted that the suspension of this year’s annual drumming festival does not mean the end of such activities.
“The fact that this year we are not going to hold the annual drumming festival does not necessarily mean that we are no longer going to see similar events in future. We are going to have similar events and we have great plans for an improved performance for our next year’s festival,” he said.
Drums of Peace was founded in 2008 by Ndlovu and Shuna Herscovutz for the purposes of nurturing and developing the artistic talents inherent in the people of Zimbabwe. Drums of Peace is a value based drumming group that has selected the ancient sound of power of African drums to create a resonance that liberates feelings of unity, love and happiness bringing together musicians of all disciplines and genres while at the same time producing a sound reflecting the greatness of the African continent.
