IN a petulant outburst of epic proportions, a man from Tsholotsho in Matabeleland North province ran berserk and set his family house ablaze after having an argument with his sister over chores.

Advantage Moyo appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of attempted murder.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to Friday for continuation of trial.

Allegations against Moyo are that on 17 October 2023 at around midnight, he was drunk and when he got home he sat on the veranda and started talking to his sister.

Moyo then enquired about his niece, Sanele Ncube whom he had given a task to fetch some water.

His sister then told him that the water had been fetched and that he was supposed to retire to bed as it was late.

Moyo demanded to talk to Ncube and he started calling her, but she did not respond as she was fast asleep.

His sister told him he was  being childish and should go to bed.

This angered Moyo who produced a knife and started waving it and threatening to stab her, she then wrestled with him and fled the scene.

Moyo remained in the house and set it ablaze. The family members who were inside managed to escape and in the morning his sister returned home and found the house partially burnt.

The matter was reported  to the police leading to Moyo’s arrest.
