Drunkard son torments Bulawayo woman

A Bulawayo woman from Sauerstown suburb in Bulawayo finds herself caught in a harrowing domestic situation, as her son’s drunken tirades and verbal abuse have become a recurring nightmare.

His accusatory rants, blaming her for not providing adequate food, have created a tense and hostile environment within their home.

The troubled woman Lungile Gumbo told the court that her son Farai Gumbo is a thorn in her flesh as he always comes home drunk and hurls insults at her while threatening to stab her.

Holding back tears she said Farai would bash her and insult her.

She said he would also threaten to kill anyone who attempts to intervene during his outbursts.

Lungile told the court that Farai would give her money for rent, only to demand it back a few days later.

She revealed that last week, she had to report him to the police and returned the money to him at the police station.

“I am applying for a protection order against my son. When he comes home from a night out, he would eat his food and then accuse me of not having kept food for him. He has a tendency to insult me when he comes from a beer drink and would beat me up.

“He always threatens to stab me. When he gives me money for bills, he later demands it back. Last week on Tuesday, I reported him to the police as he was harassing me and paid him back his money.

“I pray that this honourable court grants me a protection order,” her affidavit reads in part.

In default, the presiding magistrate granted Lungile a protection order. The order prevents Farai from physically, verbally, and economically abusing his mother.

The order is valid for five years
