Afro-soul singer Zahara is said to be single after her boyfriend apparently dumped her because she drinks too much.
According to the Sunday Sun, Umhlobo Wenene FM presenter Amaza Ntshanga broke up with his famous girlfriend because he had had enough of her love of the bottle and lack of effort to visit him.
Zahara (real name is Bulelwa Mkutukana), and Amaza have a long distance relationship, and sources claim that he did not appreciate the fact that they only saw each other if he made the effort to travel from Cape Town to Johannesburg to visit her.
A few months ago it was reported there was trouble in paradise but the songbird rubbished the claims.
Speaking to the Sunday Sun, a colleague of Amaza said: “For them to see each other is a serious mission. Amaza complained that Zahara makes no effort to visit Cape Town and see him. He used to go up to Jozi to be with her. He also begged the station bosses to give him a transfer to Jozi – but that didn’t work.”
A source in the music industry claimed: “When was the last time you heard that Zahara would perform in the country?
“Even TS Records bosses are tired of bringing her to order as she is a difficult person. She is also frustrated because her new album seems to be a flop.”
It is understood that Amaza asked her to take it easy on the booze, but allegedly Zahara told him he shouldn’t tell her what to do with her life.
The source said the singer is “no longer an innocent girl” she was when she broke onto the music scene with her hit song Loliwe.
When approached for comment, Amaza did not deny or confirm his split from Zahara, but instead criticised the Sunday Sun for only showing an interest in the juicy details of his personal life.
“Last week at the MTN Radio Awards my show Sijiki Langa won an award for the second time. So why don’t those people talk about that instead of gossiping?” questioned Amaza.
Zahara took to Facebook to clear the air about the rumours and admitted that she did drink too much at one point, specifically after her brother died last year. She said she had since cleaned up her act and is getting over the depression of losing a loved one. “Don’t believe everything you read in these newspapers. Me and Amaza are fine, more than fine -we went together to radio awards,” Zahara told TimesLive.
“My 3rd album is on its way, so I’m always in studio. I’ll never do something to disappoint you, my Army. Love you always,” she concluded . – Zalebs/ Sunday Times.
