DSTV Rangers coach Bigboy Mawiwi believes yesterday’s win over Lake Harvest is a confidence booster for his side as they continue with their campaign in the Northern Region Division One soccer league.

An early goal from Willard Kalongonda was all DStv Rangers needed to collect maximum points at Old Hararians Sports Club yesterday.

Kalongonda was on target for his side just two minutes into the game when his shot from outside the box beat Lake Harvest’s goalkeeper Justice Nyarumwe.

Although Rangers emerged winners yesterday, they were wasteful in front of goals, failing to convert a number of chances that came their way while their opponents struggled to break their defence.

Mawiwi admitted that after losing to Darwin last week in what he described as a shocking defeat, they were under pressure going into yesterday’s encounter and the win will boost his players’ confidence.

“We had pressure coming from a defeat, it was quite a shocking defeat but we regrouped and worked hard. Lake Harvest is a very good side, they have got youngsters and some experienced players and they are playing a very good passing game. So we had to make sure that we maintain our shape and also we were looking for an early goal and indeed it paid dividends when we managed to get a goal in the first two minutes.

“As I said before that it’s a tight game now with those 10 games to go, every team wants maximum points or a point. So it’s a massive result for us, three points in the bag and it also raises the much-needed confidence,” Mawiwi said.

Although Lake Harvest appeared to be a good side considering the challenges they are going through they never threaten to DStv Rangers.

But their coach Stewart “Shutto” Murisa felt his side could at least have collected a point from yesterday’s game.

Meanwhile, Gunners had a good outing on Saturday when they beat log leaders Ngezi Platinum 1-0 at Baobab ending the latter’s unbeaten run.

Gunners got their goal from Ramson Zhuwawo and are now second on the log table with 42 points. They are 13 points behind Ngezi Platinum.
