Zimbabwean national and Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC) Operations Executive, Mr Makomborero Nyakotyo, on Monday had an engagement with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, in a landmark encounter described as both “humbling” and “inspiring”.

The engagement took place during an official tour of the DMCC headquarters.

The  Crown Prince who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and also chairs The Executive Council of Dubai visited the DMCC facilities.

Founded in 2002, the DMCC has rapidly evolved into a premier global gateway for commodities trade, positioning Dubai as a strategic hub for international business and enterprise.

Mr Nyakotyo, one of the top-ranking Zimbabwean professionals in Dubai’s competitive commercial ecosystem, played a facilitative role during the Crown Prince’s visit to the centre.

His presence and contributions signified growing strategic ties between Zimbabwe and the UAE, particularly in the spheres of commodities, mining and investment.

Mr Nyakotyo told Zimpapers Business Hub on Tuesday that “As a Zimbabwean expatriate and professional based in the UAE, meeting and conversing with His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum — Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and UAE Minister of Defence was a deeply humbling and inspiring experience.
“Our conversation underscored the UAE’s remarkable vision for innovation, sustainability, and global trade, values that resonate strongly with my own work across strategic commodities and regional integration.
“His Highness’s warmth, insight, and commitment to empowering global talent reaffirmed the UAE’s role as a unique hub for cross-cultural collaboration and opportunity.”

This significant encounter comes on the back of President Mnangagwa’s own official visit to DMCC in 2024, where the Head of State held meetings with senior executives and explored pathways to deepen trade relations between Zimbabwe and the UAE.

Zimbabwe, endowed with vast reserves of gold, diamonds, lithium, and other strategic minerals, is increasingly seen as a key partner in Dubai’s expanding engagement with Africa’s natural resource markets.

Mr Nyakotyo’s role highlights the rising global influence of Zimbabwean professionals in driving economic diplomacy and advancing continental trade integration.

As DMCC continues to extend its global footprint, synergies with resource-rich markets such as Zimbabwe are expected to play an increasingly pivotal role in reshaping commodity flows across the Middle East and Africa.

As global demand for strategic minerals and commodities intensifies, the role of African economies and Zimbabwe in particular is set to become ever more pronounced, with partnerships such as these laying the foundation for sustainable and inclusive trade development.
