NATIONAL Arts Merit Awards (Nama) outstanding poet for 2013, Obert Dube, has made another mark on the poetry scene as he has released a 10-track poetry DVD album titled We are one.The album, according to Dube, is a non-racial and non-tribal offering that seeks to unify the diverse cultures found in the country and the continent as a whole.
The album features poems such as Landlord, We are one, Advice, uMqabuko KaNyongolo, Bosso (Highlanders Football Club), Welcome to Facebook, Umzilikazi, Qinisela maKristu, Yimina and My Sweetheart.
Dube said the album appeals to people of different backgrounds and languages.
“This DVD talks about the need to unite for the development of the entire human race regardless of colour, creed or tribe. It talks about love for one another as instructed by the Almighty.
“Anyone can enjoy this album as it talks to people on what they encounter in their daily lives,” he said.
The DVD which has some clips shot in Bulawayo’s Luveve suburb features Khaya Arts, Thandanani Women’s Ensemble, Mpumelelo Shining Stars and Joe Maseko.
The Lupane-born poet said he had spiced up his poetry by using a guitar on some of the poems on the DVD.
However, financial constraints have hampered the official launch of the DVD.
In an effort to broaden its market scope as well as include the international audience, Dube included English lyrics in some of his poems.
The firebrand poet has performed at various high-level platforms with high profile artistes that includes superstar Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Ndolwane Super Sounds, and Obadiah Mathulane.
