Dube still wants to fight

Dube had said last year that he would make an announcement at the end of January on his boxing career. He lost by knockout to Flo Simba, a lighter opponent, after three rounds in a fight which was evident that he could not match an opponent who moved in the  ring.
“I am still into the sport. I have thought carefully about my future. I believe it is in the ring.
“It’s a God-given talent that I should use. Yes I have weight problems to fight and this has to do with discipline.
“I hope to be a new Thamsanqa who will shed weight and fight his opponents in the ring. Obviously people want me to be lighter than what I am, it might not be possible I have to be game on whatever weight I trim to because I feel I was always destined to be a super heavyweight,” said Dube.
The Pumula East lad said he was three weeks into  road running on the Pumula roads and would this week return to Tshaka to work out with Phillip Striker Ndlovu.
“I am still with coach Phillip Striker, I will be going to Tshaka next week to begin working with my coach. He took me on board and saw to it that I put on my first glove, so I deserve to give something back to him and all those who have stood by me,” said Dube.
He said he was looking for a personal trainer to take charge of his slimming programme and sponsors to be responsible for his dietary needs.
“I want to work out in the gym to help me shed weight to acceptable levels. When I am  fit I believe no boxer in the region can stand in my way, I need to stay at a particular weight for more than a month if I am to be at optimum levels to conquer what comes before me,” said Dube.
Dube last fought on 29 August last year. His biggest challenge is lack of sponsorship, fights and sparring partners.
Dube said there was no fight in sight.
“I just want to stay fit in case something comes up. I should be in tip top condition all the time. This year I want to turn a new leaf,” said Dube.
Striker said he was happy to see Dube return to camp after several months in the                   cold.
“He owes Zimbabwe revenge. Everyone was behind him in his last fight but he let down the nation, he knows the country is behind him and all they want are positive results,              let us all support the young man get back to his feet,” said         Striker.
In his last fight Dube weighed over 140kg and could hardly match the 97kg Simba who moved at will in the ring on the night.
Dube was expected to scale former champion Kilimanjaro’s heights but lack                       of promoters has turned out to be his biggest hurdle.
