Dube wins 50km race

BULAWAYO’S finest cyclist Nkulumo “Nkust” Dube of Flying Eagles Club won the 50km SPCA race in the city in one hour 30 minutes on Sunday. The weekend competition attracted over 77 participants in all the categories with all entry fees donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Cyclists competed along the Gwanda-Bulawayo Road.
The elite 50km cycling race started from Aloe Gardens to Esigodini tollgate and back towards the city.

Harare-based Dube shrugged off a stiff challenge from teammate Bukhosi Ndlovu who came second in one hour 30 minutes 31 seconds.
Dube, a member of the Zimbabwe National Army, also won the last edition of SPCA race held at Hillside Dams last month.

He also ended the season on a high as he topped the time trial series rankings after winning all the events in the city this season.
“This year has been fantastic for me, I did well and managed to win all my races thanks to my teammates like Bukhosi who pushed me all the way,” he said.

The 5km run was won by Dan Robinson in 22 minutes 41 seconds while Roxy Wilson settled for second place in 25 minutes 57 seconds.
Chantelle and Natilie Dexter came first and second in the 5km walk in 23 minutes 41 seconds and 40 minutes and 17 seconds respectively.

The 16km walk was won by Paulo Lowe in one hour 47 minutes and one second while Brain Lowe followed a second behind.
The Flying Eagles Cycling Club chairman Chrispen Kazingizi said it was a good outing and the support was amazing as they look forward for to the next event.

The event was sponsored by Craig Goby, Dendairy Dairies and Aloe Gardens.

  • 10km Run: 1 R Oatley 51 minutes10 seconds; 2 L Love  51 minutes 31 seconds, 3 Clint McGregor   53 minutes 37 seconds
  • 16km Run: 1 Paulo Lowe one hour 47 minutes; 2 Brain Lowe one hour 47 minutes one second

40km Off Road Ride

  • 1 Stephan Sibanda one hour 32 minutes 11 seconds, 2 Knowledge Khupe  one hour 33 minutes 14 seconds; 3 Doug Shenk one hour 58 minutes 58 seconds.

50k Road Ride: 1 Nkulumo Dube one hour 30 minutes 29 seconds; 2 Bukhosi Ndlovu one hour 30 minutes 31seconds; 3 Ralph Mthupa and Chrispen Kazingizi   one hour 31 minutes 56 seconds.
