Dube wins SPCA cycling race

HIGH flying Nkulumo Dube of Flying Eagles Club won the 50km SPCA race in the city in one hour 33 minutes on Sunday. The event took place at Hillside Dams where the cycling club was raising  funds for the SPCA. The weekend competition attracted 80 cyclists who raced in different categories such as running, walking and cycling.

Dube, who is based at the Zimbabwe Military Sports Academy in Harare, shrugged off stiff challenge from Eben Manaba who came second in one hours 36 minutes.

Dube and Manaba have been dominating most race events in the city of late.
They came first and second respectively in the last race along Nkayi Road early this month.

Ricardo Granger won the 15km off road race in 52 minutes 28 seconds with Lynn Schwim coming second in 58 minutes 45 seconds.
The 30km off road was won by Ian Sheasby in 1 hour 13 minutes 15 seconds while Gavin Stephens settled for second place in one hour 13 minutes 27 seconds.

Chantelle and Natilie Dexter came first and second in the 5km walk in 23 minutes 41 seconds and 40 minutes and 17 seconds respectively.
The 11km walk was won by Paulo Lowe in one hour 11 minutes and five seconds while Brain Lowe followed a second behind.

The Flying Eagles Cycling Club chairman Chrispen Kazingizi said it was a good outing and that they would be having more races every fortnight to keep cyclists active.

Ekhaya Bikes and Mark Querl were the event sponsors, with all money raised on the day donated to the SPCA.
