TWO men from Mabvuku, Harare , have been arraigned on charges of fatally assaulting a suspected thief.

Misheck Dunduru (24) and Takunda John (22) were not asked to plead to the murder of Nelson Govhati when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Isheunesu Matova.

The magistrate directed them to apply for bail at the High Court and set March 19 as the date for their next appearance, pending indictment.

Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi outlined that the incident occurred on February 13 at around 9 p.m. on Rusitu Street in New Mabvuku, Harare.

Dunduru allegedly confronted Govhati, accusing him of robbing his brother and demanding the return of the stolen property.

In response, Dunduru is alleged to have attacked Govhati with a wooden stick, delivering repeated blows to force a confession.

John, who had reportedly quarrelled with Govhati earlier that day, allegedly joined the assault, escalating the violence by striking Govhati with stones and a hockey stick.  Govhati succumbed to his injuries the following day.
