TWO men believed to be illegal artisanal miners have been arrested after they ran amok and stabbed two people at the illegal 6th Avenue taxi rank this Wednesday.

The duo, Lungelo Moyo (33) of Cowdray Park and Director Sibanda (32) of Nkulumane 5 in the city reportedly arrived at the “mshikashika” rank with five others as yet unidentified men in a white Toyota Hilux at around 3pm.

After disembarking from their vehicle, the two approached one of their victims, a 31-year-old tout and began asking about the whereabouts of a certain man whom they said lives in Old Magwegwe.

The tout told them that the person they were looking for had gone home before he then asked them why they were looking for him.

This did not sit well with the two attackers and Lungelo attacked the complainant with fists, bricks, stones before pulling out a hunter’s knife from his trouser pocket with which he stabbed complainant in the stomach and he fell down and unconscious.

The second victim a 28-year-old man from Gwabalanda arrived on the scene and tried to restrain Lungelo from continuing to attack his victim, but Lungelo’s cohort, Director charged towards him and stabbed him once on the left buttock with a knife. However, when the second victim was attacked by Director, all seven occupants of the Hilux were then attacked by the mob, but five managed to get away leaving their motor vehicle at the scene while the mob severely attacked the two knife attackers and stripped one of them naked before they escorted them to Bulawayo Central Police Station.

The injured complainants were taken to hospital.

“Police would to applaud the community of Bulawayo for saving a life from the criminals although we urge members of the public to desist from assaulting criminals and taking the law into their hands. We urge them to escort them to the police station,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube in confirming the incident.

“We also encourage members of the public not to carry around machetes and specified knives. Pursuant of this incident, we urge the public not to use violence but try by all possible means to solve their differences amicably. We appeal for information that may lead to the arrest of the five outstanding accused persons,” Insp Ncube added. @RealSimbaJemwa
