TWO forestry commission employees have been arrested after they were found in possession of about four kilograms of buffalo meat.
Enerst Dube (52) and Itai Bira (45) appeared before a Hwange magistrate facing a charge of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act by removal of any animal or part of an animal from any land or from one place to another on any land. The duo was convicted of the offence and is set to be sentenced today.
The court heard that on 9 June 2024 at around 7 am, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority received information to the effect that the duo had taken buffalo meat from the carcass of a buffalo that was killed by a lion at Miombo grid along Mpofu road.
Zimparks officials reacted to the information and teamed up with the police. They proceeded to the duo’s residence where they found a white sack and a brown sack packed with the game meat.
The meat weighed 3,79 kg and 3,67 kg respectively. The two were asked to produce a permit which authorised them to possess the buffalo meat and they failed to do so, leading to their arrest
