Duo gets 9 years for stocktheft

Wonder Sibanda (30) of Bargree Farm and an ex-employee of Mbedzi together with an accomplice Rodgers Sibanda (40) pleaded not guilty to a charge of stock theft when their trial opened on Friday.
Mrs Auxillia Chiumburu convicted them on the strength of evidence provided by the State.
Prosecutor, Mr Reason Mutimba, told the court that sometime between 2007 and 2009, Sithole was employed by Mbedzi as a herdboy at Bargree Farm near Bubi.

He had responsibility of taking care of the complainant’s property including livestock.
Mr Mutimba said in 2007, Sithole drove 47 cattle to his accomplice’s place with a view of sharing the loot.

The issue came to light in August 2009 when Mbedzi carried out an audit of his cattle.
The matter was then reported to the police leading to the duo’s arrest.
Some of the stolen cattle were not recovered.
