TWO illegal hunters have been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court for hunting an animal without a permit.
Letshard Dhlwayo (23) and Ratidzai Mukai (30) unlawfully entered the Chipinge Safari Area with three dogs, a machete and two torches on July 3, 2024, at 9 PM. They were spotted by the Chipinge Safari Game Rangers and a Police Officer on patrol. The duo was found in possession of a Grysbok (a small antelope) which was in a cage.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said: “The accused persons were convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment each of which 3 months were suspended. The remaining 9 months were suspended on condition that they perform 305 hours of community service.”
The duo was accused of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act, hunting an animal without a permit or license.
