Illegal AK47 possession puts trio behind bars

THREE men were arrested in Harare for illegally possessing a gun.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement on X said Misheck Takawira Njowa (24), Jonas Daniel Mubaiwa (22) and Shadreck Njowa (20) were convicted and sentenced by a Harare magistrate on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm.

“On December 2023 the accused persons were arrested on charges of robbery of a motor vehicle. Following their arrest, a search was conducted leading to the recovery of an AK 47 rifle which was wrapped in sack material.” Said the NPAZ

They said the three failed to produce a firearm certificate for the recovered rifle, leading to a 10-month prison sentence, with 4 months suspended, resulting in a 6-month term behind bars for each of them.
