Duo jailed for housebreaking, theft

TWO housebreakers who were targeting residents in Braeside area stealing electrical gadgets and cellphones have been jailed for five years each.

Joyful Gwara (28) and Tinashe Marume (22) were convicted and sentenced to imprisonment for a series of unlawful entry and theft cases in Harare.

During the period extending from April 2025 to July 2025, Braeside residents in Harare experienced a surge in unlawful entry and theft cases, targeting both business and residential premises.

The duo would force open locked doors and at times take advantage of unlocked doors to gain unlawful access into premises before getting away with property ranging from laptops, cellphones and other accessories.

Their luck ran out on July 17, 2025, when detectives from CID Braeside received information implicating the duo in the break-ins.

Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said the two appeared at Mbare Magistrates Court on August 19, 2025, where they were convicted .

Meanwhile in another case, Delan Tinashe Matsikwa (27), Ishmael Sizila Makombe (21), Renis Tugwe (23) and Joseph Mandowa (33), appeared before Magistrate Santaywe at Mbare Magistrates Court on August 19, 2025, where they were convicted and sentenced to an effective 5 year jail term each for robbery.

This follows a robbery incident that occurred on July 29, 2025, in which the gang waylaid the victim who had just dropped off from a commuter omnibus in Zimre Park, Harare.

They pounced on her and stole cellphones and cash.
