Duo nabbed for day light copper cables theft

TWO men from Sizinda suburb in Bulawayo have been arrested after they were spotted by residents of Hillside suburb damaging street lights and cutting copper cables.

Circumstances are that on 1 June 2024 at around 1pm, Ephraim Mbewe (40) and Leeroy Manyora (27) were spotted by residents damaging street lights and cutting copper cables along Leicester road.

The residents confronted them and the duo fled, they gave chase and managed to apprehend Manyora and they took him to Hillside Police station.

Manyora was interviewed and he admitted to committing the offence with his friend. A raid was conducted leading to the arrest of Mbewe.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and applauded the community for apprehending the criminals.

“We confirm that we arrested a duo that was caught stealing copper cables. The police would like to thank the community for working together in fighting crime in the area and we encourage other suburbs to do the same whenever such incidents befall them,” he said.
