A MBARE duo appeared in court over the weekend for theft and unlawful possession of a firearm after they allegedly broke into a parked car before stealing a gun.
The two, Prince Mutetwa and Lloyd Nekati, appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
Prince and Lloyd were remanded in custody to today for their bail application.
Allegations are that on December 13, the two connived to steal valuables from parked cars in the CBD in Harare.
They went to the corner of Mbuya Nehanda and Charter Street where Francis Mutasa had parked his Toyota Landcruiser truck.
The duo allegedly then opened the car using unknown means.
It is alleged that they stole a laptop bag, which contained a pistol with four rounds together with its valid firearm certificate, US$900 and tablets.
Upon discovering the crime, Mutasa filed a police report.
On March 23, detectives from CID Homicide received a tip-off that the duo was behind the commission of that crime.
The police arrested the two and they led the cops to where they had hidden the gun.
A one round of ammunition was recovered from Nekati’s bedroom.
