A former Greendale Post Office postal clerk has appeared in court for theft of trust property worth $12 984 053.

Givemore Dzuda, 35, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure, who released him on $50 000 bail.

Dzuda will be back in court on February 17, pending finalisation of investigations.

Allegations are that between May and August last year, Dzuda and his accomplice, Tatenda Ngara, who has already appeared in court, were entrusted with collecting revenue on behalf of the Post Office.

It is alleged that the duo decided to abuse the trust bestowed on them and instead of remitting the money to the Post Office, they converted it to their personal use.

The matter came to light when the Post Office conducted a reconciliation of daily sales and discovered the discrepancy.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of the duo, and nothing was recovered.

Grace Mugocheke appeared for the State.
