‘Dynamos are work in progress’

SAUL Chaminuka is getting increasingly positive with the way his Dynamos players are grasping his methods as he bids to save the Glamour Boys from relegation.

The soft-spoken gaffer joined DeMbare three weeks ago, replacing Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe, who was sacked following a spate of negative results.

But things have remained the same, as Chaminuka has overseen two draws and a defeat in the three games he has been in charge.

Despite the fact that fellow giants CAPS United are also punching below weight and Highlanders are not yet at their best this season, Chaminuka can be forgiven to celebrate holding both to draws.

His first assignment ended in a 1-1 stalemate against the Green Machine before his charges lost 1-2 to Ngezi Platinum Stars in a match they had led for over 50 minutes.

And on Sunday, Dynamos managed to restrict Bosso to a goalless draw.

Although they failed to score or create good enough chances, the country’s most successful team showed a lot of organisation.

And Chaminuka has said the Dynamos stakeholders, including their die-hard fans, should be a bit patient as he has noted some good indicators in his work-in-progress project.

“Like I said, it is work in progress and we will get there. We, as a team, players, and technical staff are working and we are aware of what our shortcomings are and it is what we are working on but it cannot just happen just like that. We have only played three games since I arrived and if we were to play like a team that has dropped from heaven, people would wonder and say, so what was happening?

“It cannot just happen abruptly and I am saying our fans must be patient,” said Chaminuka.

“That time will come when we can play and win games that are exciting to watch, when we play games that we create our goals. That time is going to come and it is not far.

“When I am looking at every game as we are playing, I can see that there is an improvement in things that we are working on at training and I am happy with what is happening.

“I am sure that these boys will continue to gain in confidence and eventually we can go at our opponents as we please.”

There are good signs within his team to back Chaminuka’s optimism.

The Glamour Boys managed to score in two successive games for the first time this season against CAPS United and Ngezi Platinum when he took charge.

“That’s part of the progress that I am talking about. In the match against Highlanders, my players showed a lot of promise and zeal.

“Like I said, we had situations where we won the ball and from what I observed, there were times that we needed to go at them.

“We had chances of winning the game as well and I wouldn’t have taken a draw, I would have taken three points because that’s what we want.

“At the moment, we need three points if we can. But given we get a point in a game of this type, I think I would say, well done to my boys.

“We are working and I can see that there is great improvement from the way we are playing since I got here and the games that we have played have been good.”

Chaminuka will be hoping to make the most of the international break as he recalibrates his players for the resumption of games on June 13.

Premier Soccer League fixtures have been put on hold to allow the Warriors space to play their scheduled international friendlies against Burkina Faso on Friday and Niger next Tuesday in Casablanca, Morocco.
