Defending champions Dynamos secured their place in the first round of the 2025 Chibuku Super Cup after defeating Yadah 4-3 on penalties at Ngoni Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The tightly contested preliminary round encounter ended goalless in regulation time, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. Dynamos, aiming for their third consecutive Chibuku Super Cup title, kept their hopes alive by converting four of their five spot-kicks.
Veteran midfielder Denver Mukamba, who recently returned to Dynamos, had his penalty saved by Yadah goalkeeper Godknows Gurure.
Despite the miss, Dynamos held their nerve, with Yadah only managing to convert three of their attempts.
Yadah’s captain Vincent Sango missed the final penalty, skying it over the crossbar, after teammate Takunda Vareta had earlier seen his effort saved by Dynamos goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni.
Dynamos found themselves in the unusual position of contesting the preliminary round due to their underwhelming performance in the 2025 Premier Soccer League campaign.
Following Wednesday’s victory, Dynamos will now face Simba Bhora in the first round of the tournament on Sunday at Wadzanayi Stadium in Shamva.
