Dynamos 2-0 GreenFuel
KELVIN Kaindu appeared a desperate man when he accepted the near-impossible task of rescuing Dynamos from relegation. Yet, less than a month later, the Zambian coach — recently cast aside by Highlanders — has breathed new life into the Glamour Boys.
Yesterday’s 2–0 victory over fellow strugglers GreenFuel at Rufaro Stadium marked three consecutive league wins and five straight triumphs across all competitions, including Chibuku Super Cup victories over Yadah and Simba Bhora. The revival is real.
DeMbare returned from the break looking like a transformed side. Striker Jaison Kasondo broke the deadlock in the 49th minute, before Temptation Chiwunga doubled the lead from the penalty spot eight minutes later. The Vietnam Stand erupted.
Fan favourite Denver Mukamba added to the excitement when he came off the bench. He nearly capped his cameo with a free-kick, only for the upright to deny him.
Kaindu, while grateful for the result, remained measured in his assessment.
“I give credit to the team for securing maximum points and scoring two goals, which wasn’t evident earlier in the season. It shows we’ve improved, but overall, I think this was an average performance. Even in our planning, we anticipated a difficult match — and that’s exactly what unfolded.
“To go into half-time at 0-0 was purely by God’s grace. In the second-half, we came out stronger and managed to score two goals. With a bit of luck, we might have added a third. I appreciate and thank the team for the character they showed — this was not an easy game.”
Kaindu wasn’t exaggerating. GreenFuel dominated the first-half, with Blessing Kagudu, Garikai Dematsika, and Tinotenda Meke testing Dynamos’ defence. Goalkeeper Prince Tafiremutsa produced a stunning save to deny Clive Rupiya in the 33rd minute, keeping DeMbare in the contest.
That moment proved pivotal. The breakthrough came shortly after the restart when Kasondo nodded home following a slip by goalkeeper Tatenda Chikowero under pressure. The second goal was self-inflicted — captain Honest Moyo handled the ball inside the box in a desperate attempt to block. Chiwunga made no mistake from the spot.
From that point, Dynamos pushed for more. Kasondo unleashed a powerful drive that forced another spill from Chikowero, while Mukamba threatened twice in quick succession. The Glamour Boys had seized the momentum, and the fans sensed a team rediscovering its belief.
The win narrows the gap to safety to just three points, though Dynamos remain 17th with 25 points — still second from bottom. GreenFuel, now 16th on 27 points, are equally vulnerable with eight matches remaining.
Assistant coach Godfrey Tamirepi admitted his side’s errors had proved costly.
“The loss of concentration in the second-half contributed to this defeat. But we remain hopeful. The way we’re playing isn’t bad — we just need to keep working hard.”
