PREMIER Soccer League giants, Dynamos yesterday paid tribute to former club secretary Austin Zvoma, who died at the weekend.
Zvoma died at the Avenues Clinic in Harare on Saturday evening after a long illness.
He was 74.
Largely known for his long service as the Clerk of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, Zvoma is remembered at DeMbare for the role he played in the club’s executive back in the volatile but successful period of the 1990s.
He was the Dynamos secretary under the chairmanship of the late Morrison Sifelani, with another late DeMbare great Alois Mesikano as treasurer.
Current Dynamos chairman Moses Maunganidze yesterday said the Glamour Boys were saddened by the death of one of the “elders” who served with distinction during his tenure.
“The club is poorer today as the Lord took away one of the club elders, Austin Zvoma. He served the club with unquestionable distinction and made sure that Dynamos would always be the flagship for Zimbabwean football.
“He was a loyal servant of the biggest and most successful club in Zimbabwe. We will forever be indebted to one of the eminent administrators Zimbabwean football has had.
“We urge the family of the late Zvoma to draw solace from the legacy which the late son of DeMbare leaves behind. As a club, the late Zvoma shall always be a precious nugget which shall have a special place in the Hall of Fame,” said Maunganidze.
